Nice to meet you, I am Carine Aroyan, a visual artist from Yerevan, Armenia. My practice includes illustration, digital art, writing, photography, documentary, and animation.
My work focuses on the fun aspects of human vulnerability, shared miseries and fears, and celebrates absurdity as a beauty category. I use found objects and fragile materials containing traces of time, scraps of paper and fabric, mirrors, and broken glass. My process includes research, media archaeology, and work with my archive of videos and images, collected through years of compulsive documentation of everyday life.
My topics often derive from my rootless identity and complicated family geography including Mush (formerly Western Armenia, modern-day Turkey), the Javakheti region of Georgia, Russia, and finally, Armenia.
I primarily work in illustration, collage, animation, photo and videography, murals, and installation.
Open for illustration commissions.
